The Lamp at Three

A small free-verse poem about working late.

The lamp at three in the morning is not the same lamp as the one at noon.

It does not flatter. It does not pretend the desk is something other than a desk.

It is the lamp of those who have stayed past the point where staying has anything to prove.

I write, and the page receives me without judgment, without the small lies of daylight.
